Renovation Information

In 2020, our community voted to pass a $8.8 million bond proposal to renovate our library. After nearly three years of extensive renovations and operating from a temporary location, our library reopened its doors to the public in February 2023.

The goal of the renovation was to enhance the library's efficiency and sustainability. Upgrades include durable materials, LED lighting, and a geothermal heating system designed to reduce environmental impact and maintenance costs. Our geothermal system will pay for itself within the next decade. Our green upgrades are projected to reduce operational costs from about $5 to $1 per square foot. Additionally, rain gardens and runoff mitigation efforts will alleviate the library's impact on the sewer system.

The comprehensive renovation touched nearly every part of the building, preserving only the central mural and the elevator, which will also undergo refurbishment. Key enhancements include an expanded downstairs area, new study rooms, a dedicated teen section, an enriched children's section, and an innovative technology lab and makerspace.

The library's transformation reflects a broader trend of libraries becoming multifaceted community spaces. Join us as we embark on this new chapter, continuing to serve as a cornerstone of knowledge, creativity, and community engagement in Mount Clemens!
